The Importance of Adult Supervision
We recommend that adults take an active role in supervising interactions between children and dogs. Think of it as being a “helicopter parent” in the best way—staying close enough to guide, protect, and ensure that everyone is safe and happy.
Dogs and children can both be unpredictable at times, and misunderstandings can happen quickly. By hovering nearby, parents can step in if needed, helping to prevent situations where the child might unintentionally scare the dog or the dog might feel overwhelmed.
Being present also allows parents to teach children how to interact kindly and respectfully, creating positive habits and strengthening the bond between them and the dog. A little extra attention can make all the difference in ensuring safe and joyful moments for everyone!
